The Indian government has lifted a ban on the export of non-basmati white rice, which was previously in place since July 20, 2023, to boost domestic supply. This decision is part of a series of measures aimed at increasing agricultural exports, including setting a floor price of USD 490 per tonne and exempting the commodity from export duty. The government has also reduced the export duty on parboiled rice and husked brown rice from 20% to 10%. These changes, effective from September 27, 2024, are in response to concerns raised by the US and other countries about the impact of India's export restrictions on global agricultural markets.
