Grape Leaves Become Gifts in Manisa

In some districts of Manisa, fresh grape leaves collected from vineyards provide economic contribution to producers and are also sent as gifts in five-kilogram containers of brine to friends and relatives across Turkey. Freshly picked leaves are purchased by leaf buyers at 45-50 liras per kilogram, while vineyard owners prepare brine-preserved leaves at home for winter use. The prepared brined leaves are sent as gifts via cargo to nearby relatives.
