Greater public-private work will improve the competitiveness of Peruvian legumes

(Agraria.pe) Although the legumes or beans produced in Peru have differential values that make them better compared to those from other countries, their potential has not yet been taken advantage of due to different factors, reported the president of the Beans Committee and others. Grains of the Association of Exporters (ADEX), Jorge Fernández Gil. During his presentation at the seminar for the National Legumes Day – celebrated every July 12 –, organized by the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri), he pointed out that more public-private work is needed in order to recover competitiveness of this offer. “We are still a reactive country. Therefore, it is time to take the initiative and improve internal processes. On the State's side, Senasa must train producers in the optimal use of pesticides and guarantee the safety of the harvest.
