Greece has received 101.53 million euros from the EU to aid recovery from weather-related damages, but funds are not available for losses from a sheep and goat plague. The European Council has not yet agreed on compensation for these losses. Livestock breeders are seeking immediate financial support. The Greek Minister of Rural Development and Food, Kostas Tsiaras, has proposed a review of EU funds for zoonosis treatment and compensation for producers. He also suggested a coordinated network of veterinary services between the EU and neighboring countries. Tsiaras is advocating for a delay in the implementation of the regulation on the electronic registration of plant protection product use, to relieve the administrative burden on farmers.
