Next week, additional measures to support livestock farmers who have lost their animals to the pestivirus (Pesti) will be specified, Greek Minister of Rural Development and Food Kostas Tziara said in an interview with SKAI radio.

These measures will mainly cover the loss of income and will function as a supplement to the already paid compensations for killed animals and feed, giving "a big breath of fresh air" to the livestock world, the minister further commented.
"We are facing the real need of livestock farmers who, unable to restore their livestock because there is a corresponding ban from the European Union, are in a financial impasse," he added.
According to Kostas Tziara, the fight against the pestivirus is based on the coordination of all participants and the strict observance of biosecurity measures: "We have already established the National Scientific Committee for the Fight against Pestivirus for some time now.
