[Reporter Hong Lan, Korea Farmers' News] Amid the recurring issue of water scarcity in the East Sea coastal region due to climate change and geographical characteristics, the "groundwater dam" has been proposed as a key measure for diversifying water sources and ensuring a stable supply of agricultural water. At the Chuncheon International Water Forum held on the 25th and 26th at the Sejong Hotel in Chuncheon, with the theme "Water for a Sustainable Future," the session on "Measures for Water Scarcity in the East Sea Coastal Region of the Han River Basin" focused on discussing ways to fundamentally solve the drought in the Yeongdong region. As of August this year, the cumulative rainfall at the Gangneung Meteorological Station was 410 mm, which is only 42% of the average annual rainfall (958 mm). Particularly, the rainfall from June to August was only 184 mm, compared to the average annual rainfall (641 mm).
