In 2020, North Gyeongsang Province, South Korea, saw a 20.0% increase in agricultural food exports, reaching a record $634 million for the fifth year in a row. This growth is attributed to strategic online export consultations and the establishment of permanent overseas sales sites. Notable increases in exports include grapes, Chinese cabbage, kimchi, dried persimmon, and laver. China, Hong Kong, Canada, Australia, Taiwan, Indonesia, and Thailand were the top buying countries. The province's export strategy, which includes high-quality products, online marketing, and policies to diversify the market, along with the creation of the 'daily' brand for export fruits, also contributed to this success. Despite the COVID-19 crisis, Gyeongbuk Governor Lee Cheol-woo is optimistic and has plans to further expand exports in 2021 by targeting high-growth markets and increasing sales channels.
