South Korea: Gyeonggi-do Jersey fertilized egg transplantation project produces the first calf

This is the first calf produced since fertilized egg transplantation began last March to spread the new breed of brown dairy cow, the ‘Jersey’ breed. These fertilized eggs were imported from overseas for bloodline management of Jersey breeds, including preventing inbreeding, and 8 Jersey fertilized eggs were transplanted into 8 Korean beef cows. Of these, 4 are pregnant (50% conception rate) and 3 more are scheduled to be delivered in the future. To revitalize the Jersey industry, the Jersey calves produced this time will grow to 14 months of age and then produce fertilized eggs, which will be distributed free of charge to farms that have joined the Jersey Breeding Farmers' Council in the province.
