(Changwon=Yonhap News) Reporter Jeong Jong-ho = The 'Busan-Gyeongnam Regional Federation of the National Farmers' Federation' issued a statement on the 10th, urging the provincial assembly to revoke the decision to cut the entire provincial budget for the rural basic income in Namhae County. The Busan-Gyeongnam Regional Federation stated, "The rural basic income project in Namhae is an important policy that can bring hope back to the wrinkled faces of farmers and fishermen," and demanded that the provincial assembly immediately revoke the decision to cut the entire provincial budget. The total budget for the rural basic income project in Gyeongnam Province and Namhae County for next year is 70.2 billion won. The government was to provide 28.08 billion won (40%), the province 12.636 billion won (18%), and Namhae County 29.484 billion won (42%). However, the provincial assembly's agriculture, forestry, and fisheries committee cut the entire provincial budget of 12.636 billion won for the rural basic income project in Namhae County three days ago, citing concerns over side effects such as disguised entry and the argument that it was a preemptive policy. Additionally, the recent notification from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs to Gyeongnam Province and others that if the provincial budget does not support the rural basic income project at a rate of 30%, the national budget will not be allocated, has put the rural basic income project in Namhae County on the brink of collapse. The standing committee on budget and accounts of the provincial assembly will decide whether to restore the cut rural basic income provincial budget during the comprehensive review of the Gyeongnam Province budget proposal today. jjh23@yna.co.kr
