Gyeongnam Province held a meeting at the Gyeongnam Fisheries Safety Technology Institute last Friday to devise measures for improving and activating the aquaculture disaster insurance system in response to the increasing frequency of fishery disasters due to climate change. In order to prepare for repeated fishery disasters such as high water temperatures and red tides caused by recent climate change, and to establish a stable disaster insurance system, representatives from cooperatives, cities and counties, and universities gathered. They discussed the current status of aquaculture disaster insurance enrollment and its issues, support status for expanding enrollment, improvement measures for the disaster insurance system in response to climate change, and difficulties and suggestions from cities, counties, cooperatives, and fishermen. In particular, they focused on reducing the insurance premium burden for aquaculture farmers.
