The Korea Institute of Ocean Science & Technology (KMI, Director Cho Jung-hee) has published a collection of stories showcasing the challenges and innovations of fishing villages (photo). The collection, which targets fishing villages nationwide, comprises a total of 15 case studies covering various topics such as industry, culture, population, and community recovery. It focuses on the efforts to advance towards sustainable fishing villages amidst population decline, aging, and changes in industrial structure, as well as the direction of future fishing village policies. It includes examples of challenges and innovations from various regions such as the "regional regeneration" of Yeongdong Port in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang, the "fish bus" of Yuldo in Mokpo, South Jeolla, and the "AI digital twin" of Pohang, North Gyeongsang.
