(Haenam = Yonhap News) Reporter Jo Geon-yeong = It is expected that autumn napa cabbage from Haenam, Jeonnam, will start shipping from the end of October, and winter napa cabbage from December.
Considering the increasingly early kimchi-making period, the harvest is expected to be more than 10 days earlier than usual.
According to Haenam County on the 25th, this year, with no typhoons and no occurrence of diseases and pests, the kimchi cabbage is more robust than ever.
The napa cabbage seedlings, which were planted earlier this month and were thinner than fingers, have now grown so densely that the soil is no longer visible, forming waves of green.
Napa cabbage farmer Park Mo said, "We have finished weeding, and if we apply fertilizer soon, the inside will become full and firm," and reported a smooth growth situation, stating that the shipment of kimchi cabbage by the end of October is possible.
Last year's high prices for local napa cabbage led to an increase in the cultivation area of Haenam napa cabbage by over 300 hectares this year.
The county projected that the cultivation area for autumn and winter napa cabbage will reach approximately 4,900 hectares.
