The Haenam Sweet Potato Research Center, which oversees the entire industry of Haenam's representative specialty, sweet potatoes, was inaugurated. On the 25th, Haenam County (County Mayor Myeong Hyeon-gwan) held the opening ceremony for the Sweet Potato Research Center in the agricultural research complex of Pyeonghwa-ri, Samsan-myeon, announcing a new leap for the Haenam sweet potato industry. The Haenam Sweet Potato Center, covering an area of about 30,000 square meters, includes a research building (672 square meters), a vinyl greenhouse (4,000 square meters), a storage purification facility, and a demonstration test field (24,930 square meters). The total project cost was 5 billion won. Activities include the development, cultivation, and dissemination of sweet potato varieties suitable for the region, the production of tissue culture seedlings, the research of pest and disease diagnosis and reduction technology, the improvement of cultivation techniques and farmer education, and distribution.
