The harvesting of Haenam County's specialty crop, sebal-namul, has begun. Starting the first shipment at the end of October, sebal-namul is a unique fresh vegetable that can only be enjoyed in the winter. The vegetable's leaves grow thin and long, hence the name sebal-namul. Centered around Munnae-myeon's Yearak village in Haenam County, over 1074 tons are produced annually from 18 hectares, generating about 2 billion won in annual income, making it a beneficial crop for the region. Originally native to coastal areas such as reclaimed land with residual saltiness, sebal-namul was known as a winter delicacy only for seaside residents. However, since its first successful cultivation in Haenam in 2006, it has emerged as a nationally recognized winter vegetable.
