China: Hainan Provincial Animal Disease Prevention and Control Center went to Guangdong Province to carry out research on the construction of animal disease risk prevention and control system

A delegation led by Hainan Province's animal disease prevention and control director, Xie Youzhi, visited Guangdong Province from June 20 to 22 to explore advanced practices in animal disease prevention and control. The team visited several institutions, including the Guangdong Provincial Animal Disease Prevention and Control Center and South China Agricultural University, to gain insights into topics such as biosafety laboratory design, high-throughput sequencing for unknown animal diseases, illegal drug screening in food and livestock products, and laboratory information management. The learnings will be used to enhance Hainan's capabilities in animal disease prevention and control, with a focus on establishing a provincial animal disease prevention and control command center. The team also emphasized the importance of early warning systems for zoonotic diseases and the need to improve the efficiency of the command center project and the pressure test of the "closed customs" biosecurity prevention and control of the free trade port.
