Hungary's walnut industry is facing challenges due to climate change, increased competition from large-scale production in other countries, and pest issues. These factors have reduced Hungarian walnut yields and competitiveness in the European market, despite the industry's expansion over the past decade. The industry's future depends on advanced cultivation techniques, sufficient capital, and mechanization. Additionally, the need for pest protection is critical, especially against walnut drilling. The government is working on a development proposal, involving the National Chamber of Agriculture and other partners, to address these challenges and ensure the industry's competitiveness.
