The OECD and FAO report predicts that avocados will become the most traded fruit by 2030, with production projected to triple from 2010 levels. Mexico remains the leading producer and exporter, but other countries like Peru, Colombia, and Kenya are increasing their production. Kenya, now the sixth-largest producer, has doubled its production in the past five years and is the continent's largest exporter. The avocado business in Kenya began in the 1970s and has seen a surge in demand, particularly from the EU, due to its health benefits. The avocado tree takes about four years to bear fruit and requires significant initial investment.
