The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) has distributed local seeds to farmers in Istanbul, with the aim of reducing foreign dependency. The seeds, which include wheat, corn, barley, and sunflowers, have been planted over an area of 557 decares in Silivri, Çatalca, and Beykoz. The trial plantings have shown that the local seeds are more resistant to diseases and harmful animals, resulting in high yields. Both the IMM and the farmers involved are pleased with the results, with farmers reporting that the local seeds are superior to previous ones and produce above average yields.
