Harvesting of spinach has begun in the Menemen district of Izmir, with the crop being sold for 15-20 TL in markets, compared to the 4-5 lira price in supermarkets. Menemen is known as Turkey's spinach warehouse, supplying a large portion of the vegetable to Istanbul and Izmir. However, drought has made the work of farmers more difficult, and they are hoping for harsher winter weather, as cold temperatures increase sales.
