Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports are projected to reach a record 6.4 billion USD in the first 10 months of 2024, with durian making up nearly half of the exports, bringing in over 3 billion USD. The country's durian production has seen a significant increase of 16.6% from the previous year, reaching nearly 1.2 million tons. There is also interest from Chinese agricultural product importers to penetrate the Chinese market with Lao durian, facilitated by the China-Laos Railway. However, the export of these fruits and vegetables faces competitive pressure in the market, with Vietnamese fruits struggling to maintain their position due to expansion in acreage in other countries. The Import-Export Department is emphasizing the need to highlight the unique values and qualities of Vietnamese fruits to Chinese consumers to compete in the market.
