The northwestern Pakistani district of Hazara is becoming a major hub for olive oil production, with hundreds of farmers cultivating the Kaho breed and other varieties, leading to potential self-sufficiency and exports. The region's climate and large land area are suitable for olive farming, and efforts are being made to improve yield and quality, as well as modernize cultivation practices and processing facilities. The government is supporting the olive industry through various initiatives, including subsidies, projects, and collaborations with research centers, which are expected to boost production and create employment opportunities. In 2022/23, Pakistan produced around 86 tons of olive oil, with plans to expand production to over 10,000 tons annually by 2027, contributing to economic growth in rural areas.
