The farming organization, Unió de Pagesos (UP), has criticized the low reference prices set by the Reus fish market for hazelnuts and carob beans, arguing that they fail to cover production costs and have led to a significant increase in the cost of basic inputs such as plant protection products, fuel, and electricity. UP has warned that these prices conflict with the Food Chain Law and threatened to take action if the situation does not improve. The prices for hazelnuts and almonds at the Reus market range from €1.74 to €2/kg and €2.78 to €7.43/kg, respectively, while carob beans are priced between €1.48 and €1.55/kg.
