The Spanish Association of Organic and Conventional Almond Producers (AEPAEC) is concerned about the significant price disparity between Spanish and imported Californian almonds, with Spanish farmers receiving about 25% less despite their almonds' superior quality. Spanish almonds are priced just over 4.00 euros per kilo, while imported ones fetch higher prices, due to buyers setting prices below global market rates. This situation is unsustainable, particularly for organic almond farmers, and threatens the viability of almond farming in Spain, which is crucial for rural communities and environmental conservation. AEPAEC is exploring alternative commercial strategies to secure fair pricing for Spanish almonds.
