Spain: ASAJA regrets that the Ministry of Agriculture continues to promote the import of Egyptian potatoes

After learning that the Port Authority is processing an authorisation with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food for the import of potatoes from Egypt through the Port of Alicante, ASAJA expresses its indignation and will immediately request an urgent meeting with this body so that it can reconsider the serious consequences that this may have on the agricultural sector in Alicante, mainly in the Vega Baja region, in Elche and Alto Vinalopó. The agricultural organisation denounces that this initiative goes against the principle of community preference (that goods produced in any EU Member State will have preference over those coming from third countries) and favours unfair competition, precisely two of the major problems that hinder the profitability of the Spanish countryside.
