The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Korea Racing Authority announced on the 8th that an urban horseback riding experience event will be held from September 9 to 11 at Sejong Lake Park in Sejong City. The event is held in conjunction with the "2025 Sejong Hangeul Festival" hosted by Sejong City.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, horseback riding experiences will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis at the venue, and professional staff with qualifications such as riding instructors will be deployed to manage the experience to ensure safety.
The horses used for the experience are retired racehorses that have been trained as riding horses after retiring from racing, or riding horses produced domestically. Sufficient rest time is provided for the health and safety of the horses. Visitors weighing over 75 kg or under 105 cm in height cannot ride the horses.
In addition to the horseback riding experience, the organizers will run programs such as horse viewing and photography, and a horseback riding promotion booth.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Racing Authority will hold such urban horseback riding experience events in 15 locations across the country. In particular, starting this year, horseback riding experience events will be operated in conjunction with regional festivals to introduce and provide horseback riding experience opportunities to more citizens.
In autumn, urban horseback riding experience events will be held from October 18 to 26 at Seoul Race Park in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi, from October 24 to 26 at Taehwagang National Garden in Ulsan and Hwarang Amusement Park in Ansan, Gyeonggi, and from November 1 to 16 at Suncheonman National Garden in Jeonnam.
Ahn Yong-deok, Livestock Policy Director of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, said, "The support for urban horseback riding experiences is a project that provides an opportunity to see horses, which are usually difficult to see in the city, at nearby festival sites, and to experience horseback riding for free. We hope that the experience event will serve as an opportunity to expand the base of recreational horseback riding in urban areas."
