(Boseong=Yonhap News) Reporter Son Sang-won = This summer, due to the heat and increased sunlight, sesame mosaic disease is spreading in the agricultural fields of Jeonnam.
According to Jeonnam Province on the 26th, after the ear emergence when young ears come out from the end leaves, the high temperature phenomenon, where the temperature rises by 1.9 to 3.5 degrees compared to the average year, has continued, leading to the spread of sesame mosaic disease.
The affected area is estimated to be 10,000 hectares, which is 7.2% of the total rice cultivation area.
Sesame mosaic disease mainly occurs in sandy soil paddy fields (sandy fields) and old paddy fields due to nutrient deficiency during the ear formation period.
This summer's abnormal high temperature and increased sunlight have led to the early consumption of soil nutrients and low root vitality, resulting in the spread of the disease.
Sesame mosaic disease can lead to a decrease in rice quantity and quality, affecting farmers' income.
Jeonnam Governor Kim Young-rok visited the damage site in Miryeok-myeon, Boseong-gun, on the same day and instructed support for prevention measures.
Jeonnam Province plans to operate on-site guidance teams and strengthen inspections to reduce the damage.
