The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service has released a report predicting an increase in global apple and pear production for the 2023/24 season. This is attributed to higher production in the United States and China, which offsets reduced output in the European Union and Turkey. China's apple production is expected to rise by 500,000 metric tons, and pear production by 600,000 metric tons, due to normal weather conditions and investments in new technologies. However, Italy's production has hit a 18-year low, leading to a decrease in the EU's total production. South Africa's apple and pear productions are also expected to increase, with South Africa becoming the largest Southern Hemisphere apple exporter for the third year in a row.
