South Korea: Highly pathogenic avian influenza confirmed at Hwaseong native chicken farm, antigen also detected at Gimje laying hen farm

Avian influenza (AI) has occurred at a native chicken farm in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, and a laying hen farm in Gimje, Jeollabuk-do. The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters (Director Song Mi-ryeong, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs) announced on the 22nd that highly pathogenic AI has been confirmed at a native chicken farm in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province. This is the 14th case of this winter season. On the same day, the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters announced that H5-type AI antigens were confirmed at a laying hen farm in Gimje, Jeollabuk-do, and that the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency is conducting a detailed inspection to determine whether it is highly pathogenic. Whether it is highly pathogenic will be confirmed within 1-3 days. The Hwaseong native chicken farm was identified as a place where 202 native chickens and 67 geese are raised in mixed breeds.
