Honduras is facing a locust plague that is threatening to destroy crops, particularly corn, according to the country's newspaper, 'Tribune'. The pests have shifted from pastures to corn fields, causing damage to the crops before the leaves have even sprouted, even in genetically modified corn. The situation has escalated, adding to existing concerns of drought making the soil unproductive. At least 15% of the crops in the Jamastrán Valley have been damaged, rendering them unsalvageable. The local governor, Medina, has called on farmers to take preventive measures and urged authorities and agricultural institutions to collaborate to develop a strategy to control the locust population and safeguard the crops.
