[Agricultural, Fisheries and Livestock Newspaper=Reporter Kim Jeong-hee] The Hongseong County Agricultural Technology Center (Director Lee Seung-bok) recently urged farmers to thoroughly manage and prepare for the delayed garlic planting due to the continued autumn rains that have caused excessive soil moisture, which is causing concern for growth retardation and uneven germination leading to reduced yields. According to the Agricultural Technology Center, if the garlic planting period is delayed, the development of roots and leaves before winter will not be sufficient, leading to slower growth, which can result in winter frost and drought damage, and consequently reduced yields. Additionally, if soil moisture persists, there is a risk of increased damage from diseases and pests such as leaf blight and root mites. The county is thus mobilizing the income crop team of the Agricultural Technology Center to address these issues.
