The International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) has conducted a seeds production training program for over 350 farmers in Sudan's Gadarif State, focusing on improving seed quality and control to enhance food production. The training, part of the Sustainable Agrifood Systems Approach for Sudan (SASAS) program, aimed to increase farmers' demand for improved seeds and support agricultural productivity amidst food crisis and conflict. The program also emphasized the distribution of seeds through a revolving mechanism and the cultivation of drought-tolerant sorghum crops. SASAS's objectives include improving food security, providing income-generating opportunities, and supporting smallholder farmers through sustainable agriculture practices, diversification, and post-harvest management.
