Huge scale of import of rapeseed, sunflower, and soybean oil from Ukraine to Poland: Is this the reason for low rapeseed prices?

Data from the Central Statistical Office show that approximately 700 thousand tons of oil (rapeseed, sunflower, soybean) was imported to Poland in 2023 from Ukraine. For comparison, in 2016 it was 100,000. tons and in 2020 approx. 380 thousand tone. What is important is the fact that until August 2023, genetically modified rapeseed could be grown in Ukraine. It should also be added that mainly sunflower oil comes to us from Ukraine. In general, total oil imports to Poland were the highest in 2022, when they reached the level of approximately 1 million tons. If we assume that approximately 3 kg of rapeseed is needed to produce 1 kg (i.e. 1.12 liters) of rapeseed oil, we obtain the equivalent of as much as 3 million tons of rapeseed. About 1 million hectares of this species are cultivated in Poland, which, with an average yield of 3 t/ha, gives 3 million tons of rapeseed.
