Hungarian cherry growers hope for a successful year

At a press conference at the Ministry of Agriculture, State Secretary Jolt Feldman said that cherry growers are expecting a good year thanks to favorable weather and a high harvest. This is reported by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Netherlands. In the country, 2,600 cherry growers grow this crop on an area of about 12,000-14,000 hectares. The State Secretary also added that foreign demand shows that Hungarian cherries "have a future", so the state program to support orchards will be continued. Ferenc Takacs, vice-president of the FruitVeB alliance of fruit and vegetable producers, estimated this year's harvest at 55,000-60,000 tons. Ferenc Takacs added that this does not exceed the average of the last 15-20 years, but in one of the main competing countries, Poland, "at least half of the cherry crop was lost due to spring frosts."
