The Institute of Agricultural Economics in Hungary has reported a decrease in the national average sunflower yield to 2.5 t/ha, down from 2.74 t/ha in the past five years, excluding the extreme drought year of 2022. In response, sunflower breeders are developing hybrids to improve crop stability and yield consistency, especially in drought years. This involves breeding hybrids with downy mildew resistance and resistance to new races of known diseases. The task of selecting hybrids that can withstand various environmental factors is crucial due to weather extremes.
