Hungary will have the second-lowest apple harvest of the decade

The Hungarian Association of Fruit and Vegetable Growers (FruitVeB) expects the domestic apple harvest in 2024 to be well below last year's 472,000 tonnes. The association predicts an output of only 330 thousand tons with an error of +/- 10%. This means that Hungary will have the second lowest harvest in the last ten years (2022: 280 thousand tons, 2020: 358 thousand tons). The actual amount of harvestable apples will be determined by weather conditions during the harvest period. However, based on the experience of FruitVeB forecasts, the actual harvest is 3-4 times lower than the forecast at the beginning of the season, due to the fact that the weather is more often unfavorable than optimal. Under good conditions, the harvest can exceed 350 thousand tons, and under bad conditions - not even 300 thousand tons.
