Russia has temporarily restricted the import of seeds from countries it deems unfriendly to bolster domestic seed producers. The government has set quotas for the import of seeds like corn, sunflower, and sugar beets, but 80% of these quotas have been taken by companies with no seed production or breeding experience, leading to concerns about seed supply disruptions. Despite this, the National Seed Alliance's chairman, Igor Lobach, assures there will be no seed shortage. The share of Russian seeds in the market has increased significantly, but the transition from foreign to domestic seeds has been slow, despite domestic seeds being 2-2.5 times cheaper.
