Australian Border Force and Australian Fisheries Management Authority successfully intercepted four illegal Indonesian fishing vessels near Augustus Island, seizing over 700 kilogrammes of sea cucumber, 2,350 kilogrammes of salt, and destroying three of the vessels at sea. Operation Leedstrum has been established to increase the ABF's presence in the region, with a goal of detecting and intercepting illegal fishing activities. So far, this operation has led to the apprehension and prosecution of 10 Indonesian fishermen this financial year, building on the 22 apprehensions and 75 prosecutions of the previous financial year. The authorities have warned that those engaging in illegal fishing in Australian waters will face significant penalties, including loss of catch, equipment, and potential imprisonment.
