Indonesia is importing 3.5 million tons of rice due to the decrease in food production caused by El Nino. The Minister of Agriculture estimates that rice imports could reach 5 million tons in 2024. In response to the increased demand for food and the decline in production, the government is reallocating a budget of IDR 1 trillion and proposing an additional expenditure budget of IDR 5.83 trillion to accelerate planting and increase rice and corn production.
