The Mangman Passage at Wanding Port in Ruili, Yunnan, on the China-Myanmar border is bustling with activity as the Spring Festival approaches, with trucks full of Myanmar watermelons and melons entering the customs and being transported all over China. These watermelons, which account for about 80% of the Chinese watermelon market in winter, are particularly preferred in the northern Chinese markets due to their size and sweetness. Despite a decrease in trading volume due to the epidemic over the past two years, trade has picked up this year with the return of normal customs clearance at the port, reaching over 100 vehicles in the Changhe Fruit Trading Market daily. Over 80% of these employees are Burmese, and the port has implemented measures such as appointment clearance and green customs clearance to ensure the fast entry of watermelons and other seasonal fruits.
