The Swiss Council of States has rejected a motion to ban the import of milk for cheese-making from abroad, as it is already under very restrictive conditions. The motion, proposed by State Councilor Werner Salzmann (UDC / BE), aimed to prevent the reduction in Swiss milk production prices and risks associated with imported milk. Despite the financial compensation for cheese producers, the majority of senators believed that the proposal was too restrictive. The council also tacitly transmitted a motion by Marcel Dettling (UDC/SZ) to improve information for involved parties, as the federal administration handles requests for additional training and market-based decisions are not easily accessible to partners.
