In February, Ukraine experienced a significant decrease in pork imports, with receipts falling to their lowest level since 2018 at 743 tons or $1.5 million, a 2.6-fold reduction from the previous month. This downturn is linked to meat processors' efforts to stock up on cheap raw materials amidst heightened market competition and a weak sales period. Despite the reduction in pork imports, the average price per kilogram of pork in the EU rose to a record 2.28 euros in February, marking a significant increase from the previous year. As a result, Ukrainian importers are struggling to find pork at marketable prices, with total pork imports for the first two months of the year being 4.6 times lower than the same period last year. The Association of "Swine Farmers of Ukraine" anticipates that pork supplies from the EU will increase as EU and domestic pork prices converge, although the process may be slow due to high delivery costs from remote supplier countries.
