Imports of sunflower seeds to Russia may decrease by 20%

Since 2002, the maximum volume - 30.8 thousand tons - was imported in 2020. In 2021, supplies decreased to 26.5 thousand tons. The decrease in imports in the last two years is due to the growth of domestic production and improvement in the quality characteristics of products, analysts note. The main suppliers of sunflower seeds to Russia over the past 20 years have been Turkey and the USA, their share in total exceeding 50%. In addition, 13% of imports came from France, 10% from Spain. This year, seeds are also mainly imported from Turkey: over the 10 months of 2023, supplies from there increased by 38% compared to the same period last year.
