The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has forecasted a 15% increase in global almond production for the 2020/21 season, reaching 1.7 million tons. US almond production is expected to rise by 18% to 1.4 million tonnes, with 60% of these almonds being exported. European almond production is projected to grow by 2% to 140 thousand tons. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there has been a surge in the use of almonds in food products, leading to a 15% increase in almond imports, primarily to the EU, China, and India. Australian almond exports are also expected to grow by 31% to 85 thousand tons.
