A special campaign by the Ministry of Public Security in China to combat illegal fishing in the Yangtze River Basin has seen over 9,000 criminal cases detected and 900 criminal gangs destroyed, leading to a significant decrease in illegal fishing activities. The campaign, which started in June 2020 and will continue for three years, has also seen the restoration of endangered species in the river. The initiative aims to create a deterrent for illegal fishing and provide time to address the root causes of the issue.
