In 2020, Bulgaria saw a 3% increase in cow's milk production, reaching 825 thousand tons, which contributed to a total milk production of 930 thousand tons. Despite this, purchase prices for milk were 1% lower than the previous year, but are expected to rise by 4% in 2021. The country's dairy product production increased by 25% in January 2021 compared to the same period in 2020. However, the European Union (EU) experienced a 1% decrease in milk purchased in January 2021, leading to a reduction in the production of various dairy products. Despite this, exports of whey and skimmed milk powder increased. The EU also experienced a significant increase in dairy prices, particularly in whey, butter, and skimmed milk powder, in the first two months of 2021 compared to the previous year.
