In 2023, 5.20 million tons of grain were harvested in Austria

Austria harvested 5.20 million tons of grain in 2023, 1% more than in the previous year, Statistics Austria reported on December 21. At the same time, the volume of harvest of oilseeds and grain legumes increased to a record level. However, the harvest of root crops was significantly lower than in the previous year and on average for ten years. The wheat harvest amounted to 1.72 million tons, 2% more than in 2022. At the same time, 1.58 million tons were accounted for by soft wheat, including spelled - 1% more than in 2022. Despite the fact that the area under cereal corn was increased by 3% to a maximum of 222,000 hectares, due to drought, part of the crop had to be used for silage. This led to an actual reduction in sown areas by 2%, and the harvest volume remained at the previous year's level - 2.11 million tons.
