Egypt's wheat imports reached 10.8 million tons from January to September 2024, with 8 million tons coming from Russia and 1.5 million tons from Ukraine, according to customs data. Despite this, the country is still carrying out plans to reduce wheat imports and replace them with sorghum and corn to lower the costs of subsidized bread. The state-owned Egyptian grain operator, GASC, has also secured a large direct agreement for the supply of 510,000 tons of Black Sea wheat monthly from November 2024 to April 2025.
