In August 2021, Norway's seafood export turnover surged by 32% year-over-year to NOK 9.6 billion (USD 1.1 billion) due to increased exports of salmon, mackerel, and king crab, with salmon exports hitting an all-time high. The global market's gradual reopening and hotel and restaurant openings have fueled this growth. Scandinavian seafood exports for the first eight months of 2021 increased by 7% year-over-year to NOK 72.9 billion (USD 8.4 billion). Additionally, Norway experienced a good mackerel fishing season, exporting a record 147,000 tons in August 2021. King crab exports also saw a 43% increase in value, with Hong Kong being the largest growth market. However, Norway's shrimp exports decreased by 5% in volume and 13% in value in August 2021. Overall, Norway's seafood exports in 2020 reached the second-largest value ever at NOK 105.7 billion (USD 12.2 billion).
