The Japanese company Yamanaka has been selling Russian salmon mislabeled as being from Hokkaido for nearly two years, with almost 8,000 packages sold between January 2022 and November 2023. The regional agriculture office discovered similar violations in four supermarkets in Aichi Prefecture. Yamanaka has been ordered to correct the labeling and has apologized, citing ineffective communication about the change in suppliers as the cause. In Japan, locally produced products are often more valued and priced higher than imported ones.
