The article explains the factors contributing to the rise in meat prices in Kazakhstan, specifically focusing on the increase in sheep numbers and wool production. From July 2020 to 2021, there was a 3.6% increase in sheep numbers, predominantly in the Turkestan, Almaty, and Zhambyl regions. From January to June 2021, 131.8 thousand tons of live weight sheep were slaughtered or sold for slaughter, resulting in a 14.4% increase in lamb prices by June. To combat this, the government is considering a ban on the export of live small ruminants, following a proposal by the chairman of the National Association of Sheep Breeders of Kazakhstan.
